The Values and Personal Information Policies Chair

The Values and Personal Information Policies Chair is pleased to invite you to the session of the EHESS seminar "Socio-philosophy of the Present Time" led by Pierre-Antoine Chardel and Valérie Charolles, in partnership with the VP-IP Chair, on the theme "Surveillance, Security and Liberties in Times of Crisis", in a webinar version on Thursday, December 10, 2020, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Caroline Lequesne-Roth

After studies in law and philosophy, and a PhD dedicated to the Contractual Default Regime of European Debtor States, completed at the Université Libre de Bruxelles, Caroline Lequesne-Roth joined the Université Côte d'Azur in 2016. As a lecturer in public law, she founded, alongside Marina Teller, the DL4T program which aims to bring together lawyers, data scientists and computer scientists around the challenges of deep technologies. Director of the Fablex DL4T (Artificial Intelligence Law Clinic) from 2018 to 2020, she is now in charge of the Master II Algorithmic Law and Data Governance. This work focuses on the normative and conceptual challenges of the digitization of public services in the age of artificial intelligence and big data. She is the author of various contributions relating to the framework of surveillance technologies and the relationship between science and power.

Olivier Hassid

With a doctorate in economics from the University of Paris 1-Panthéon Sorbonne and teaching at the University of Paris X-Nanterre and ESC Reims, Olivier Hassid was in charge of security issues in the Prime Minister's office before joining Brinks as Deputy to the Chairman and CEO. He is currently Chief Executive Officer of the Club of Enterprise Security Directors (www.cdse.fr). Author of several books and articles related to security (La sécurité en entreprise with Alexandre Masraff, Maxima, 2010; La gestion des risques, Dunod, 2008; La société vulnérable, criminalité, terrorisme et insécurité en Europe, Le Félin, 2006,...), he directs the review Sécurité & Stratégie, the first European review of security and risk directors.

Valérie Charolles

Valérie Charolles, member of the VP-IP Chair, is a researcher in philosophy at the Institut Mines-Télécom Business School, associate researcher at the Institut Interdisciplinaire d'Anthropologie du Contemporain (UMR 8177 CNRS/EHESS) and lecturer at the EHESS (Research seminar "Sociophilosophie du temps présent: enjeux épistémologiques, méthodologiques et critiques"). She works on how technique, quantification and economics construct the contemporary world and subject. She has published four books with the Fayard publishing house, including Philosophie de l'écran in 2013 and Les qualités de l'homme in 2016. A revised and expanded edition of her first book, Le libéralisme contre le capitalisme will be published in paperback (Folio Essais/Gallimard) on January 14, 2021.

Pierre-Antoine Chardel

Pierre-Antoine Chardel is a philosopher and sociologist, PhD. from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS), PhD. from Laval University (Canada), authorized to direct research (HDR) from the University of Paris (Faculty of SHS Sorbonne), professor of social sciences and ethics at the Institut Mines-Télécom Business School (IMT-BS). He also works at Télécom SudParis (member of the Institut Polytechnique de Paris). Former seminar leader at the Collège International de Philosophie, former member of the research center "Sens, Ethique et Société" / CERSES (UMR 8137, CNRS / Université Paris Descartes) and of the Commission de réflexion sur l'Ethique de la Recherche en sciences et technologies du Numérique d'Allistène (CERNA), he was recently a guest researcher at the MédiaLab of Sciences Po - Paris. Since 2013, he is co-founder of the Chair of Values and Personal Information Policies (VP-IP) at ITM. In addition, he is the founder and director of the Laboratoire Sens et Compréhension du Monde contemporain (LASCO IdeaLab), a member of the Institut Interdisciplinaire d'Anthropologie du Contemporain (IIAC / LACI, UMR 8177, CNRS / EHESS) and co-responsible (with Valérie Charolles) for a seminar at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) entitled: "Socio-philosophie du temps présent. Enjeux méthodologiques, épistémologiques et critiques". He has published a dozen books, including: Transition industrielle et organisations émergentes : l'éthique en question, ed. with Sophie Breteché, Carine Dartiguepeyrou, and Thibault de Swarte (Presses des Mines, 2019); L'empire du signal. De l'écrit aux écrans (CNRS Editions, 2020).
