Presentation of the session:

Koumbit is a self-managed non-profit organization (NPO) in Quebec, specialized in hosting and developing websites for social organizations (international cooperation and solidarity organizations, unions, activist groups, environmental, educational, artistic and cultural organizations).

This organization was the subject of an in-depth study during a post-doctoral internship carried out in 2011, when the structure had 24 workers and had been in existence for 10 years. Like many self-managed structures, Koumbit is experimenting with an atypical organizational form that is shaking up our ways of thinking. It advocates a total absence of formal hierarchy in favor of a total sharing of decisions between all members of the association, whether in terms of work organization, strategy, governance or values. Strong principles that give rise to original practices in terms of organization and human resources management, but which are not without limits.

Presentation of the seminar :

 The Future Chair of Industry and Labor of Mines - Paris Sciences et Lettres organizes a monthly seminar on the rise of autonomy in organizations. The objective of this seminar is to discuss concrete experiences of setting up an organization that favors employee autonomy by analyzing the difficulties encountered, the impact on operational performance and employee satisfaction, the construction of "words to say it" ... During the first year, we will focus on companies where different national or professional traditions coexist and on the support of middle management.
