The Bibliothèque de l'Ecole des Mines de Paris-PSL is continuing its program of talks and debates between researchers and experts.
We are delighted to invite you to attend a "Rencontre" between Olivier Bomsel, Professor of Economics at Mines Paris-PSL, and François Hartog, historian at ENS and EHESS.
Economy, politics and time
For almost three centuries, it was believed that economics conditioned politics and history. This assumption is still very much alive, both in public opinion and in the social sciences.
Over the past twenty years, however, new approaches have been challenging this view.
These concern, on the one hand, the role of institutions in controlling violence and the social orders they establish. And secondly, the end of progressivism, in other words, of an experience and representation of time driven by the future.
The theory of social orders and transformations in the order of time are reshaping the relationship between economics, politics and history.
This meeting between François Hartog, historian of time, and Olivier Bomsel, economist of institutions, will give some examples."
This exchange will be an opportunity to discover the richness of the dialogue between disciplines, their place in the production of knowledge, and above all to see the intellectual careers of two researchers whose work is widely recognized.
A filmed interview will round off the event.
