High school prize Lire l’économie 2021: awarded to the book “Les entreprises hyper-puissantes. Giants and titans, the end of the global model?”
Posted on 17 December 2021

The 23rd Journée du Livre d'économie took place on Wednesday 15 December at the Centre Pierre Mendès France in Bercy, on the theme "France Europe: how to keep our independence?

The Prix lycéen Lire l'économie 2021 was awarded to the book "Les entreprises hyper-puissantes. Géants et titans, la fin du modèle global?", by François Lévêque - Éditions Odile Jacob

For Jules, a high school student in STMG who announced the name of the winner: "This book was an electroshock, it made us realise that our lives were being directed by companies like GAFA in all areas of our lives, sometimes without our knowledge. The different concepts discussed in this book are able to make you understand the place occupied by big companies in our society. It made us understand the importance of our personal data considered as digital gold.  Indeed, do you still think you can escape them? You will find the answer in the book "Hyper-powerful companies. Giants and titans, the end of the global model?"

Two other prizes were awarded at the end of the debates:

  • The 2021 Economics Book Prize: "La France sous nos yeux", by Jean-Laurent Cassely and Jérôme Fourquet, Éditions le Seuil
  • The Prix lycéen Lire l'économie spécial BD 2021: "Urgence climatique" by Ivar Ekeland and Étienne Lécroart - Éditions Casterman

Le Prix lycéen "Lire l'Économie" is awarded to an economics book, published in the current calendar year, that promotes economic analysis and reflection. The books that compete for the award popularise economics and serve as a resource for students. All high school classes may participate.

The prize is awarded by the Minister of Education during the Economics Book Day.
