New release: “Performance de la R&D et de l’innovation. Du contrôle de gestion à la gestion contrôlée”
Posted on 17 November 2016

by Sophie Hooge and Roland Stasia While the management of R&D and innovation projects has become essential to ensure companies’ sustainability and competitiveness, traditional management control represents a real danger, as it creates the risk that the R&D budget can be considered as “fixed costs” and the projects of innovation as development projects. To understand the risks of this instrumental discrepancy with the contemporary issues concerning intensive innovation, this book offers a critical review of the management processes in the R&D area, and an approach to developing a management instrumentation adapted to the current specificities of innovation and research projects. The approach adopted here calls for a deep transformation of the management control tools. On the one hand, it includes a system of frugal R&D resource management supported by a leverage specific thereto, and on the other hand a particularly original innovation project management tool; based on a triangular approach of the management through value, it combines economic uncertainties, corporate strategy and the commitment of the competent actors. This book brings together the experience of the director of management control regarding the research, innovation and design related activities of the Renault group and that of a researcher in innovation management at MINES ParisTech. This book presents an overview of the current issues relating to management and management control. Sophie Hooge is a researcher at the Center for Scientific Management at MINES ParisTech. Her research focuses on the managerial issues relating the introduction of organizational capacities in support of disruptive innovation in large companies. Roland Stasia is the Consulting Director to monozukuri Renault / President of hèRès conSulting, and Associated Professor at Paris Dauphine University. To erad an excerpt
