3rd Interdisciplinary Innovation Conference

The regulation and innovation nexus: new issues, new perspectives

17 December 2018

Interdisciplinary Institute for Innovation (i3)

Conference venue: Mines ParisTech, Espace Maurice Allais, 60 boulevard Saint Michel, 75006 Paris.

Regulation connects to innovation in a variety of manners and with a variety of implications. The question of who regulates what, how and how well when dealing with the processes that usually fall under the rubric of “innovation” intermingles with the question of how innovative, viable, useful, prudent or virtuous are the measures, standards, rules and determinations that are usually referred to as “regulation”. This conference focuses on the regulatory challenges represented by new, complex innovations and on the novel perspectives that they may open or be required. How are new technologies such as the driverless car tackled from a regulatory perspective? How are concerns such as privacy and discrimination addressed in new industries that rely on the processing of personal data? How is competition addressed in these and comparable cases? How is responsibility or liability defined, assessed and monitored? These questions require an interdisciplinary dialogue between economic, managerial, legal, sociological and anthropological perspectives.
